Pierre Funck was born and grew up in Luxembourg. After completing a degree in chemistry at ETH Zurich, he studied singing, music theory and composition at the Early Music Department of the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen (Southern Germany). Later on he completed a Master of Arts degree in composition for film, theatre and media at the Zurich University of the Arts.

He teaches music theory, composition and instrumentation – from 2001 until 2019 at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen and since 2015 at the Zurich University of the Arts.

Since 2007 he works as a film music composer and has scored over 80 films so far.

Pierre Funck is the president of the association Forum Filmmusik, which aims to raise the public attention for film music and to facilitate the exchange of information and experience between film composers and film makers. He is one of the main organisers of the International Film Music Competition.

Besides working as a film music composer, Pierre Funck reconstructs partially extant Renaissance and Baroque works and sings in several professional vocal ensembles, including the ensemble “Le Chant sur le Livre” specialised in Renaissance-style improvisation.

Pierre Funck lives and works in Zurich.
